The Spartans shot 54 percent from the field, including 50 percent from 3-point range. The visitors made 11-of-22 from behind the arc compared with only 6-of-22 for the Ravens, who also shot only 39 percent from the field. Manchester also had the advantage at the free throw line where they made 11-of-13 compared to 10-of-18 for Anderson.
Anderson was led by senior J.D. Clampitt with 23 points and four rebounds. Playing in his final home game, Clampitt hit 9-of-19 field goals, including three 3-pointers. He also had four rebounds and a pair of assists.
Senior Dustin Simcoe had one of his best games of the season, scoring 11 points and leading the team with seven rebounds in 22 minutes. He also had a pair of assists and steals. Lloyd DeLoatch added eight points, seven assists and two steals, bringing his total to 61 thefts.
Manchester also held an 11-rebound advantage on the boards (39-28) and had the edge in assists (18-15) and blocks (4-0).
The Spartans scored the first five points of the game and led for most of the first 20 minutes, including their biggest lead at 30-23 with three minutes left. AU managed to tie the score on six different occasions, but took its first lead of the game at 31-30 on a layup by Clampitt with 1:30 left, capping an 8-0 run. Manchester scored five of the last seven points to lead 35-33 at the break.
Neither team led by more than six points over the first six minutes of the second half and Terry Coleman’s layup tied the game at 49 with 11 minutes left in the contest. Then the teams traded runs as Manchester scored eight in a row only to see the Ravens come back with nine straight to take a 58-57 lead on Nick Rogers layup with 6:50 left.
However, it would be the last lead for the Ravens in the game. The game was tied twice more with the final time at 62, but back-to-back three-point plays pushed the margin to six and the Spartans outscored the Ravens 16-2 over the final three minutes.
AU (8-16, 3-10 HCAC) travels to Mt. St. Joseph for the regular season finale on Saturday at 3 p.m. The Ravens will travel to either Hanover or Franklin next Tuesday for the HCAC tournament.
