Salve Regina 75, Roger Williams 54

NEWPORT, R.I. — Salve Regina University sophomore forward Steve Walsh [SO/Manchester, N.H.] scored a career-high 31 points and posted a double-double with 13 rebounds to lead the Seahawks over visiting Roger Williams University, 75-54, in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's basketball action. Walsh has scored in double figures in each of the last eight games, concurrent with the Seahawks' eight-game win streak.

Walsh had 15 at the half where the Seahawks led by just two points (31-29). The first half featured nine lead changes and eight ties. Ryan McGinn [FR/Plattsburgh, N.Y.] would tie the game briefly in the second half before Salve Regina went on an 11-2 run capped by an old-fashioned three-point play from Walsh.

Matt Coute [SR/Somerset, Mass.] scored 18 points, 14 coming in the second half, while Matt Grendal [JR/Foxboro, Mass.] also posted a double-double with 15 points, 15 boards. Marty Paciorkowski [FR/Deerfield, N.H.] led the Hawks in scoring with 12 points off the bench.

Led by Walsh, Salve Regina outscored Roger Williams in the paint, 46-to-16. The teams split the season series as Roger Williams (11-12; 10-4 CCC) still has a hold on first place in the league's South Division and Salve Regina (16-8; 9-6 CCC) has one game remaining with hopes of climbing into second place.
