Howard Payne 66, Sul Ross State 33

02/13/06 — Lady Jackets Take 66-33 Win over Sul Ross

ALPINE, Tx.- A cold night at the floor cost the Sul Ross Lady Lobos a 66-33 conference loss to visiting Howard Payne in Monday action at the Gallego Center.

Soli Quintanilla led Sully with 8 points while Kym Kyzar posted 8 rebounds.

HPU opened with a 15-2 run to start the contest. The Lady Lobos pulled within 4 at the 6:53 first half mark after a 3-point jumper by Jeanna Adams. Both teams went to the break with HPU sporting a 29-18 advantage.

It was all Lady Jackets in the second half as HPU broke out to a 14-1 run. The Lady Jackets led by as much as 37, 66-29 with under two minutes left in the game.

As a team Sully shot 21% from the field compared to HPU’s 47%. The Lady Lobos nailed 8 of 11 free throws good for 61% while HPU went 14 for 23 or 61%.

Kim Hoffman led the assault for HPU with a double-double 17 points and 10 rebounds.

The Lady Lobos fall to 1-22 and 1-19 in league and will return to the Gallego Center on Thursday for conference play with Schreiner.
