“This was my favorite year as a player,” Femling said after the game. “I love all the players – we have great chemistry and we play well together.”
Femling and teammate Jill Schuette (Sheboygan Falls, Wis. / Plymouth), MSOE’s seniors, were honored at halftime. Both players were given a gift and recognized with their parents.
“Cortney and Jill are great leaders,” MSOE coach Jessica Ott said. “Jill is an all-around team player; we count on her for rebounding and defense. Cortney contributes all the time. We ask her to be an offensive threat and defend our opponent’s top perimeter player. She directs the team and gets it going for us on the court.”
Schuette finished the night with four points and four assists, and she finished her career at MSOE with great memories.
“We have a strong group of girls this season. I think we had some let downs, but we stayed together as a team,” Schuette said. “It was neat to come into a program that was getting started and watch it develop. It will only get better. It was also great to play in a facility like the Kern Center after starting out in the church gym.”
Two other Raiders scored in double figures on the night – freshman Jessica Gravesen (Trego, Wis. / Spooner High School) finished with 13 points and junior Catherine Chappell (Lemont, Ill. / Lemont High School) added a double double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
“We shot the ball extremely well as a team tonight. It all started with the defense, our steals created opportunities for us offensively,” Ott said.
