LAGRANGE, Ga. — Panthers take overtime thriller against Fisk
Feb. 12, 2006

LaGrange College celebrated Senior Day with a 110-108 overtime GSAC win over Fisk on Sunday at Mariotti Gymnasium. The game was the regular season finale for the Panthers, now 7-17 overall and 1-7 in GSAC play. Fisk dropped to 14-10 overall and 5-3 in conference play.

Senior Corie Jackson scored 27 points in his final home game. Jackson and teammate Robby Lawrence kept the Panthers in the game. Lawrence led all scorers with a career-high 37 points.

The game came down to the free throw line. There were 72 fouls called in the game. Six players fouled in the game and there was 89 free throws taken. The biggest foul call came in overtime with three seconds left.

The Panthers' Antoine Maddox was fouled by Fisk's Marquis Patton with the score tied at 108. Maddox calmly sank both of the free throws for the deciding points. Fisk was unable to get off a desparation shot before the buzzer, sealing the Panthers' win.

The Panthers trailed 104-99 with 2:31 remaining in overtime. They still trailed 108-105 after Michael Glaze's basket for the Bulldogs. Travis Moore hit one of two free throws to make it 108-106. Lawrence's basket tied the game at 108 with 43 seconds left.

Fisk had two shots at taking the lead before the Panthers regained possession of the ball with 13 seconds left. Maddox was fouled pulling down a rebound of Lawrence's missed shot.

Fisk had rallied in both halves to overcome double-digit deficits. The Panthers led 24-12 midway through the first half. The Bulldogs used a late push to go up 45-44 at halftime.

In the second half, the Panthers led 70-59 with 13 minutes remaining. The Panthers held a 96-92 lead with 43 seconds left, only to have the Bulldogs force overtime when Patton's jumper tied the game at 97. Patton led Fisk with 27 points.

The Panthers are off until Feb. 23 for the first round of the GSAC Championship Tournament in Montgomery, Ala.
