Chicago 52, Case Western Reserve 49

CHICAGO — Jason Hicks scored the go-ahead basket with 25 seconds left in the contest as Chicago edged Case 52-49 in University Athletic Association play Sunday at the Ratner Athletics Center.

Hicks's basket gave Chicago (13-9 overall, 6-5 UAA) a 51-49 lead. The Maroons increased their advantage to 52-49 when Tim Reynolds connected on one of two free throw tries with two seconds to go.

A long three-point attempt by Case (10-12, 2-9) fell off the rim as time expired, giving the Maroons their second straight victory. With its 13th win of the season, Chicago has clinched its first winning campaign since 2002-03.

The Spartans led for the final 16:52 of the first half en route to taking a 28-24 advantage at the break.

Case built its largest lead of the game, 41-33, when Steve Young converted a three-point play with 11:08 left in the contest.

Chicago took its first lead of the second half at the 7:57 mark when a basket by Brandon Woodhead put the Maroons ahead 43-41.

Woodhead led all scorers with 15 points, while Hicks added 12.

Carson Oren paced the Spartans with 11 points.
