Wheaton (Ill.) 69, Illinois Wesleyan 66

Wheaton, Ill. — Wheaton College defeated its second top-ten team in four days, knocking out No. 7-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University 69-66 in a close-fought game at King Arena.

The Thunder took a 62-60 lead with three minutes remaining in the game on a three-pointer by sophomore John Mohan. Wheaton would never trail again, finishing the game 5-for-5 from the free throw line after a layup by freshman Andy Wiele.

A last-second three point shot by the Titans' Keelan Amelianovich fell short to give Wheaton its second consecutive upset of a conference opponent. Wheaton improves to 9-13 overall and 5-6 in the CCIW while Illinois Wesleyan falls to 18-4 overall and 8-4 in the CCIW.

Senior Jordan Kemper led the Thunder with 25 points, hitting four consecutive three-pointers in a three-minute stretch during the second half. Kemper added eight rebounds in the victory. Mohan hit four of his nine three-point attempts, finished the game with 14 points. Senior Tony Bollier recorded 10 points and six assists. Wiele collected 11 rebounds and scored eight points.

As a team, Wheaton shot 13-for-30 (43.3%) from three-point range for the game. The Thunder finished 22-for-54 from the field (40.7%) and 12-for-14 (85.7%) from the free throw line.

Earlier in the week, the Thunder knocked off the third-ranked Augustana Vikings 64-60 at King Arena. Wheaton returns to action on Feb. 15 with a game at the Millikin Big Blue.
