Washington College 74, Franklin and Marshall 64

CHESTERTOWN, Md. — Host Washington College went on a 14-3 run in the second half to take control of the game and led by as many as 25 points in a 74-64 Centennial Conference win over visiting Franklin & Marshall this afternoon at Cain Athletic Center. The Shoremen improved to 11-12 overall and 9-7 in Centennial play and remained in fourth place in the conference standings with the win. The Diplomats slipped to 11-12 and 6-10 in the conference.

Washington took the lead for good with 15:32 remaining in the first half when senior guard Kyle Stem hit a three-pointer to give the Shoremen an 8-6 advantage. The Shoremen took a 32-25 lead into the intermission.

The Shoremen held a 41-32 lead with 13 minutes remaining in the game before going on their 14-3 run. A Stem three-pointer with 9:30 left capped off the spurt and gave Washington a 55-35 lead. The Shoremen's biggest lead of the game was 65-40 following a lay-up by Kevin Marshburn with 4:58 remaining. Washington maintained a 74-55 lead with under a minute to go before F&M scored the game's final nine points to account for the final margin.

Senior forward Jonathan Webb led the Shoremen with a game-high 24 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the floor. He also collected a game-best 14 rebounds to match his career high. Junior forward Joey Breslin added 14 points, six boards, and four blocked shots, while Stem finished with 10 points.

Logan Outerbridge scored 16 points and grabbed eight boards to lead the Diplomats. Outerbridge was just 3-for-15 from the field, but shot 9-of-13 at the line. Mantas Paulauskas added 11 points, while Bryan Teschke finished with 10.

The Shoremen shot 42% from the field in the game while holding the Diplomats to 29% shooting. Washington limited F&M's top three scorers - Outerbridge, Teschke, and Brandon Smith to a combined 8-for-37 shooting from the floor.

The two teams combined for 60 fouls and 73 free throw attempts. F&M shot 25-of-38 at the line, while Washington was 22-for-35. Fifty of the 73 free throw attempts and 37 of the 50 fouls came in the second half.

The win marks the first time that the Shoremen have beaten the Diplomats twice in one season in the seven times that the two teams have met more than once in a year.

The Shoremen return to action Wednesday with a 7:30 p.m. Centennial Conference home game against Swarthmore. A win in that game would clinch a spot in the five-team Centennial Conference Playoffs for Washington.
