St. John Fisher 78, Elmira 52

PITTSFORD, NY -- — The St. John Fisher College men’s basketball team defeated visiting Elmira College 78-52 on Saturday. With the win, the Cardinals, ranked 20th nationally, have clinched the top seed for the Empire 8 Conference Championship for the third straight year and will host the No. 4 seed on Friday, February 24th at 6:30 p.m.
The victory brings Fisher’s overall record to 20-3 and 11-1 in the Empire 8. It is the fourth straight year and 10th time in the last 15 years that the Cardinals have won 20 or more games in a season.
Senior point guard Sean O’Brien tallied 14 points in the win and became the 15th player at Fisher to score over 1,000 points in a career. O’Brien, who has 1,002 points for his career, also dished out eight assists in the win.
Dan McSweeney led Fisher with 19 points, while Nick Bennett knocked down three 3-pointers in the first half and finished with nine.
Micah Owens led Elmira (3-19, 0-11) with 22 points and 11 rebounds.
