Lewis and Clark 69, Pacific 54

FOREST GROVE, Ore. — Pacific ran into a tough Lewis and Clark defense Saturday night, committing 21 turnovers as they fell victim to the Pioneers 69-54 in Northwest Conference women's basketball action at the Pacific Athletic Center.

The Pioneers (12-10, 8-6 NWC) swiped the ball from the Boxers 11 times, with Kimberly Kittell leading the way with five.

DeeDee Arnall led Pacific (7-16, 2-12 NWC) with a game-high 20 points while hauling in seven rebounds. Arnall was the only Boxer in double figures, with Trisha Terhar recording seven points. Lewis and Clark had four of its starting five reach double figures in the scoring department, led by Sarah Moon's 18 points. Shawna Castle netted 16 points for the Pios, while teammates Allison Farr and Crystal Castle scored 14 and 10.

In the first half, Lewis and Clark used full-court pressure defense to force 16 Boxer turnovers, resulting in 16 points for the Pios. Lewis and Clark raced out to a 15-2 advantage and got scoring from four different players, led by Shawna Castle's 11.

Pacific would work the deficit back to 28-18 on two Arnall free throws at the 5:51 mark, but the Pioneers would use a quick 5-0 burst to squelch a Boxer rally. Terhar buried a mid-range jumper for the Boxers at 1:37 to cut the lead to 13, but the only scoring Pacific saw after the Terhar bucket was an Arnall free throw as the Pioneers took a 42-25 lead into halftime.

The Boxers looked like they would make a charge for the lead in the second half as Jackie Olson converted two lay-ups to cut the Pioneer lead to 48-34 with 14:28 left in the stanza. Lewis and Clark would answer with an 8-0 run, fueled by Moon's three-ball with 5:32 left in the contest.

Arnall connected on six of her 20 points in the final five minutes, connecting on a lay-up and four free throws. Lewis and Clark defense stiffened and only allowed two more points afterward on a Ella Morris jumper with 0:52 left. Pacific outscored Lewis and Clark in the second half, 27-25.

The Boxers close out the Northwest Conference season playing host to Whitman on Feb. 17 and Whitworth on Feb. 18. Tip-off against Whitman will be at 6 p.m. and the Whitworth contest is set to start at 4 p.m. Lewis and Clark will take on the Linfield Wildcats at the Pamplin Sports Center in Portland on Feb. 17 at 6 p.m.
