With the victory, Ohio Northern improved to 17-5 overall and 12-4 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Marietta fell to 1-15 in league play and 4-19 on the season.
The Pioneers finished just 20-of-54 (.370), while the Polar Bears went 31-of-66 (.470) from the field. Marietta's three-point shooters had an off afternoon, hitting just 5-of-18 (.278), while ONU connected on 9-of-26 (.346) from long range.
Ohio Northern forced Marietta into 22 turnovers, while committing just 13. It also won the rebounding battle 39-3.
Junior Chad Sponseller (Canto/GlenOak) came off the bench to score a team-high 12 points for Marietta. Fellow classmate Matt Rucker (Proctorville/Chesapeake) added nine points and eight rebounds, while sophomore Matt Phillips (Williamson, W.Va./Tug Valley) contributed seven points and eight rebounds in the loss.
Ohio Northern got a game-high 23 points from Kyle Gehle, who came off the bench to hit 5-of-8 from three-point range. Jared Bostelman and Bart Hostetler each added 12 points, while Jake Cannan finished with 10.
Marietta will return home for its final two games of the season. Capital will come to town Wednesday (Feb. 15) for a 7:30 p.m. contest, while the Pioneers will close out the season Saturday (Feb. 18) with a 3 p.m. match-up with Wilmington.
