Steve Berg countered with 26 points and 8 rebounds. He tied a program record by hitting 7 three-point baskets for the second time this year. George Greene scored 19 points and had 7 rebounds for GC. Adam Hill and Lamont Watson chipped in with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Wesleyan, who trailed 34-32 at the break, shot nearly 55 percent in the second half and avenged an earlier 49-point season loss to the Pride. The Bishops now stand at 8-14 on the season, 6-3 in conference play, while GC drops to 9-12 overall, 5-5 in USA South action.
With both squads shooting close to 37 percent in the opening half, neither team could forge a significant advantage.
The Bishops, however, opened the second half with an 8-0 run to go up 40-34. The two teams would trade baskets over the next seven minutes, and Wesleyan would maintain its slim lead until GC’s Adam Hill connected on a long distance trey at the 11:19 mark to knot the score at 54-54.
The next ten minutes of play saw eight ties and seven lead changes with neither squad building more than a three-point cushion. The Pride’s Steve Berg scored 15 of his 26 points during that stretch, including two treys in the final minute. His final three-pointer came with just three-tenths of a second on the clock to pull the Pride to within two at 85-83. A successful inbounds pass from the Bishops, however, effectively ended the contest.
Arrington scored 21 of his 32 points in the second half. Sophomore Lenny Hall finished with 25.
Both teams shot around 43 percent for the game, but the difference came at the charity stripe where the Bishops knocked down 29 of 36 attempts. Greensboro was just 13 of 17.
GC record 9-12, 5-5 USAS; Streak L1; Up next @ Southern Virginia, 2/13, 5 p.m.
