Millikin (10-13, 3-9) had a 70-67 lead before Jay McAdams-Thornton put in a layup assisted by Drew Wessels, closing Millikin's lead to 70-69 with 1:25 to play. On the Millikin end, Reid Jones missed a 3-pointer, but Keanon Harrington grabbed the offensive reobund.
After another Big Blue miss, Matt Nohren came down with an offensive board, drawing a foul with 55 seconds left. Nohren converted the first attempt, but missed the second, keeping Millikin's lead at two points.
On the next Augustana possession, a missed Vikings shot and failed rebound attempt went off the Vikings giving Millikin the ball under the Augustana basket with 34 seconds left and a 71-69 lead.
On the in-bounds play, Augustana was called for a holding foul before Millikin could get the ball in, sending Jones to the line for a one-and-one. He missed the first shot and Augustana grabbed the board. With no shot, the Vikings called timeout with 18 seconds left and still trailing by two.
On its final possession, the Vikings ran the clock down, and Pat Brusveen, who made six 3-pointers on the night, missed his 10th attempt but McAdams-Thornton was there for the putback to tie the game 71-71 with three seconds remaining.
With its final play of the game, Millikin inbounded the ball to Harrington, who drove the length of the court. He missed his shot, but Nohren was there for the put-back at the buzzer.
Both teams had three players finish in double-figures. McAdams-Thornton led all scorers with 26 points and Brusveen had 20. Dain Swetalla finished with 14 points and a team-high 10 rebounds for the Vikings. Augustana played without starter Rick Harrigan.
For the home team, Millikin was led by Drew Gensler's 16 points and got 14 points each from Harrington and Lance Brooks. Nohren finished with five points and a team-high seven rebounds.
Despite trailing at the half, Millikin shot 50 percent from the field compared to 34.5 for Augustana. On the game, Millikin shot 54.9 percent while the Vikings managed just 33.9 percent. Millikin also shot 60 percent from 3-point (6-of-10) compared to 28.6 percent for Augustana (6-of-21). Augustana shot 78.1 percent from the free throw line (25-of-32) while Millikin shot 55 percent (11-of-20).
