McMurry 110, Sul Ross State 81

02/11/06 — ABILENE, Tx.- McMurry posted 6 players in double digits as the Indians grabbed a 110-81 conference win over Sul Ross Thursday in Abilene. With the win, McM pulls within half a game of Howard Payne for the top seed in the ASC West.

Tury Escobar led the way for the Lobos with 18 points while C.J. Acosta and Sid Hooper supplied 16 and 15 points respectively. Escobar, Hooper, Acosta and Abe Ely all posted 4 rebounds in the effort.

McM jumped out to an 11-2 run to start the contest and never looked back. The Tribe led by as much as 27 at the 8:56 first half mark and went to the break leading Sully 55-36.

The Indians spread the gap in the second period and broke out to a 38 point advantage, 82-44 at the 13:33 mark.

Finley Brashears led McMurry with 24 points while Dustin Faught posted 9 boards.

For the game, Sully shot 50% from the floor (30%-long range) and connected on 12-20 foul shots, good for an even 60%.

The loss keeps Sul Ross in a fifth place position in the conference west as the Lobos drop to 10-12 and 10-9 in conference play.

Sul Ross will face West Division leader Howard Payne Monday evening at the Gallego Center.
