DECORAH, Iowa — Brian Fogleman scored a game-high 15 points as the Buena Vista University men's basketball team defeated Luther College 70-53 in a key Iowa Conference showdown on Saturday. The previous evening, the Beavers defeated Simpson College by the same exact score.

For the second day in a row, Buena Vista jumped out to a sizable halftime advantage. The Beavers shot 16 of 26 (62%) from the field in the first half on their way to taking a 37-24 halftime lead.

Buena Vista scored the first eight points of the second half as Luther was unable to mount a comeback. The Beavers dominated the glass, owning a 39-23 rebounding edge as they improved to 10-13 on the season and 8-6 in the IIAC.

Rahn Franklin, who netted 10 points, was the only other BVU player to crack double figures as the Beavers benefited from a balanced scoring attack. Buena Vista had seven players who scored six or more points.

Andy Rump scored a team-high 11 points for Luther, which dropped to 12-11 on the season and 6-8 in the conference. The Norse, who could have pulled into a tie with the Beavers with a win, made just 20 of 57 (35%) from the field.

Following Simpson's loss to Loras College on Saturday, Buena Vista is all alone in fourth place in the Iowa Conference standings with two games to play. The Beavers will host Wartburg College on Wednesday, February 15.
