The Cougars improve to 10-12 overall and 7-9 in the NJAC. The Scarlet Raptors fall to 1-21 and 0-16 with their 18th consecutive loss.
With the Cougars clinging to a 33-32 lead with 6:10 remaining in the first half, junior guard Bryan Miller (Trenton, NJ/Trenton) canned a three-pointer for Kean to ignite a 20-11 run. That run gave Kean a 53-43 halftime edge and the Scarlet Raptors never cut the margin below double digits in the second half.
In addition to Coles’ big game, the Cougars received 22 points and five rebounds from senior forward B.J. Hamby (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan), while sophomore forward Bryan Keller (Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway) had 16 points and a season-high six assists. Miller finished with 10 points, while senior point guard Danny Del Valle (Linden, NJ/Linden) collected a career-high 10 assists.
For the Scarlet Raptors, freshman guard Wayne Smalls (Camden, NJ/Medical Arts) and junior guard Dane Nicholson (Pleasantville, NJ/Holy Spirit) each canned 20 points. Nicholson, who shot a perfect 10-for-10 from the foul line, hiked his career total to 806 points with his big game.
Freshman forward Antoine Miller (Camden, NJ/Medical Arts) collected 18 points and seven rebounds, while sophomore forward Drew Bernier (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) added 12 points. Sophomore guard Amir Fantroyal (Sicklerville, NJ/Timber Creek) added 10 points for the Raptors.
Kean University plays a 7 p.m. non-conference game Monday at the New York City College of Technology. The Scarlet Raptors return to action Wednesday with an 8 p.m. home NJAC game against New Jersey City University.
