Husson 96, Mount Ida 62

BANGOR, Maine — Junior Tyler Muzzy (Greenville, Maine/Greenville) collected game-highs of 21 points and nine rebounds, as the Husson College men’s basketball team glided to a 90-68 victory over Mount Ida College in North Atlantic Conference action at the Newman Athletic Gymnasium this afternoon. The Eagles connected on ten three-pointers and shot 50.0% (33-66) from the field to notch their third straight win.

A jumper by freshman Jesse Allen (Old Orchard Beach, Maine/Old Orchard) with 7:04 remaining in the first half brought the Mustangs to within six points (28-22). From there it was all Husson, as the hosts finished the half on a 21-8 run and never looked back. They turned a 19-point (49-30) halftime advantage into a 34-point triumph behind 57.1% (16-28) shooting in the second half.

Four Eagles recorded double-digit scoring efforts to help complete the season sweep of Mount Ida. Junior Jason Harvey (Bucksport, Maine/Bucksport) and senior Buddy Leavitt (Guilford, Maine/PCHS) connected on three treys apiece, as they finished with16 and 15 points respectively. Sophomore Sheraud Lee (Bridgeport, Conn./Kolbe Cathedral) added 12 points, while senior Phil White (Temple Hills, Md./Potomac Oxon Hill) dished out a game-best five assists. The hosts also received solid production from freshman Scott Kissinger (Islip Terrace, N.Y./East Islip), who finished with nine points and eight boards.

The Mustangs were led by junior Doug Williams (Ellicot City, Md./St. Mary’s), who converted on 11-of-12 from the free-throw line en route to a club-best 15 points. Senior Scott Chamberlain (Millis, Mass./Millis) added 11 points and nine boards, while sophomore Mike Dunham (Salem, N.H./Salem) tallied five assists to round things out for the visitors.

Mount Ida (5-17, 4-7 NAC) takes the court again tomorrow, as it visits Maine Maritime Academy for a league tilt beginning at 3:00 p.m. Husson (13-9, 11-1 NAC) will also be in action tomorrow, when it hosts Conference foe Wheelock College at 1:00 p.m.
