The Hawks took and 11-point lead to the locker room at the break only to allow Fisk to open the 2nd stanza with a 13-0 run to take the lead. But the Hawks rallied to retake the advantage a few minutes later with their own 8-0 run.
“That was a gutty performance for these guys under some tough circumstances,” said Coach Tony Duckworth. “It was especially telling when we regained our poise after their big run to open the second half.”
Huntingdon had to move to a tight 7-man rotation after an altercation that saw one Huntingdon player and two from Fisk ejected from the game. Add to that a trio of Hawks who played the final five minutes with four fouls, and the senior point guard, Stephen Suitts who labored to play through a nagging injury.
The Hawks stingy defense, ranked 2nd nationally in field goal percentage allowed, shut down the Bulldogs offense in the final five minutes of the game. The only Fisk points in that stretch came with 3.4-seconds remaining to play and the game well in hand. Huntingdon held Fisk to 29-percent from the field.
Allen White led a trio of Huntingdon players in double figures with 24 points. Justin Babian followed with 20 points and 9 rebounds, and Cole Hairston chipped in a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds.
Huntingdon hosts Maryville College at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday in a key GSAC contest.
