Gwynedd-Mercy 85, Cabrini 83

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA — Down by 22 points with just under 10 minutes to play in regulation, Gwynedd-Mercy produced an epic comeback to force overtime and survive a last second shot as the Griffins prevailed, 85-83, in an exciting Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Game on Senior Day at the Griffin Complex.

With the win, GM (10-13, 8-8 PAC) guaranteed a spot in next weekend's PAC Tournament and hampered Cabrini's chances in the playoff chase.

Sophomore Kevin Lauer led Gwynedd with 25 points and 14 rebounds for his fourth double-double on the year. Junior Chris DelBrocco added 19 points while senior Rick Haas chipped in 12 and Haven Wroten 11.

Jeff Dailey led the Cavs (9-14, 6-10 PAC) with 30 points as he hit six of his team's 11 treys on the day. Anthony Bennett notched a double-double with 17 points and 12 boards. Jim McMahon also netted 17 points.

Cabrini, leading by 10 at the break, used back-to-back treys from Dailey and Bennett to spark an 11-2 run to open the second half. With the Griffins in foul trouble, Bennett hit two from the line to take a 73-51 lead with 10:01 to play.

But back came the Griffins, outscoring the Cavs 30-3 over the next nine minutes. Lauer's jumper at the top of the key would tie the game at 76-76 and Haas' two free-throws finally gave GM the lead with 3:36 to play.

Dailey sank his sixth trey and Jim McMahon followed, hitting two-free throws with 53 seconds to deadlock the teams at 81-81 and force the extra session.

Lauer and Haas had the only two field goals in overtime before Bennett hit two more from the line with 1:19 left to make it a two-point contest. After getting the ball back with six ticks left, the Cavs had a last shot bounce off the rim and the ensuing tip-in did not fall as Gwynedd prevailed.

GM hit 39% (29-of-74) from the floor and scored 34 points off of 27 Cabrini turnovers. The Cavs hit on 51% (23-of-45) of its shots including 11-of-21 (52%) from downtown. Gwynedd won the battle of the boards, 37-35.
