WILLIMANTIC, CT — Geoff Richardson and Greg Lasota each made two free throws in overtime to give Eastern Connecticut State the lead for good and the Warriors defeated the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth’s men’s basketball team, 68-65 in overtime, in the second game of a Little East Conference game at the Geissler Gymnasium Saturday.

The Corsairs had forced overtime when sophomore guard A.J. Tavareshit a three-pointer to tie the game two seconds before regulation time expired. Tavares took a pass from freshman guard Reece Freeman and scored from the corner to tie the game. The Warriors had taken a three-point lead on two Lasota free throws with six seconds remaining.

Junior center Dan Holbrook hot a lay-up to put the Corsairs ahead in overtime, 60-58, and junior Julian Tynes hit a jumper and a three-pointer to keep UMD within range. Holbrook rebounded a missed free throw with 12 seconds left, but Tavares’ three-pointer hit the rim and bounded out with two seconds left.

“Our kids worked hard,” said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Brian Baptiste. “We missed some shots that would normally drop. I was pleased with our effort, and I was disappointed with the loss.”

Junior guard Devon Maiorano led the Corsairs with 15 points, junior forward Stephane Abelard added 14, and Holbrook added 10. Richardson led ECSU with 15 points, and Leon Martin added 11.

UMass Dartmouth fell to 12-11 and 5-7 in the Little East Conference with the defeat, while Eastern Connecticut State improved to 9-14 and 3-9 with the victory. The Corsairs will return to action when they host Rhode Island College in the first game of a Little East Conference doubleheader Tuesday evening.
