DUBUQUE, Iowa - The Loras College women's basketball team continued thier winning ways on Friday night with a 60-53 win over the Coe College at the Fieldhouse.
Natalie Pucci again led the Duhawks in the scoring column, dropping in 22 points on 9-15 shooting from the field. Anita Saeger's nine rebounds were a team high and were critical in extending three offensive possessions and putting a halt to six of the Kohawks trips down the floor. Saeger added 10 points and four assists in one of her best all-around performances of the 2005-2006 season.
The Duhawks led by five at the break, 31-26, but Coe quickly came back to start the second frame. The Kohawks (8-14, 6-7) scored eight straight points to take a brief 41-40 lead before the teams traded baskets for the middle stretch of the second half. Pucci's three-pointer with 7:45 left gave the Duhawks the lead for the final time at 48-47. Blair Bennett added 14 points and three assists for Loras.
The Duhawks upped their Iowa Conference record to 9-4, keeping them tied for 3rd in the standings with Buena Vista. Overall, the Duhawks are now back to .500 at 11-11. Friday's win comes less than 24 hours prior to the showdown with the Iowa Conference leading Simpson College Storm. Simpson comes to the Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon after dropping their Friday night matchup with Buena Vista 69-66 in Indianola.
