The two teams traded the lead 13 times in a first-half that also featured six ties. Chris Poole hit a three-pointer for UMHB with six seconds left in the half to give the Crusaders a 46-43 halftime edge. UMHB opened the second half with a 23-6 run to push the lead to 20 points and the Crusaders never let Schreiner closer than 11 points the rest of the way. UMHB shot a blistering 62 per cent from the field and held the Mountaineers to 33 per cent shooting. The Crusaders out rebounded Schreiner 35-26 and went 6-12 from three-point range. The game was marred by 48 fouls and the two teams combined to shoot 47 free-throws.
Justin Schwartz led UMHB with 21 points and 10 rebounds and he also added three assists. Patrick Oliver had 15 points for the Crusaders and 11 different players scored for UMHB. Kevin Dean had 17 points and seven rebounds to lead Schreiner. Ricky Beasley and Jarrell Williams added 12 points apiece and Brandon Burke chipped in with 10 for the Mountaineers.
The UMHB men will hit the road for a 3:00 PM start against Texas Lutheran University Saturday in Seguin. The Crusaders will then close out the regular season with home games against Hardin-Simmons and McMurry next week.
