Moravian 81, Lebanon Valley 61

BEHTLEHEM, Pa. — The Moravian College men’s basketball team snapped a two-game losing streak with an 81-61 victory over Lebanon Valley College in Commonwealth Conference action in Johnston Hall Wednesday evening.

The victory improves the Greyhounds to 7-15 overall and 2-9 in Commonwealth Conference action while the Flying Dutchmen fall to 10-12 overall and 4-7 in the conference.

Moravian opened the scoring with a three-pointer on its first possession before the Flying Dutchmen scored eight straight points for an 8-3 lead with 17:58 remaining in the first half, Lebanon Valley's largest lead of the game. Moravian scored six unanswered points to retake the lead at 9-8. The two squads would trade the lead over the next seven minutes before the score was tied 21-21 with 7:19 remaining in the first half. Moravian scored seven straight points for a 28-21 lead and never trailed again. The Greyhounds finished the half with a 17-8 run after the final tie to head into the intermission with a 36-29 advantage.

Moravian made just 12 of 28 field goal attempts (42.9 percent) with a pair of three-pointers; however, the Greyhounds were a perfect ten-for-ten at the foul line. Both teams had 18 rebounds with Moravian committing seven first half turnovers, and the Flying Dutchman making eight turnovers.

Lebanon Valley made 11 of 29 first half field goal attempts (37.9 percent) with four three-pointers and three of six free throws. Moravian slowly pulled away in the second half, eventually extending the lead to 23 points, 79-56, with 2:13 left in the contest.

The Greyhounds continued to have a hot hand in the second half, making 15 of 31 field goal attempts (48.4 percent), eight of 16 three-pointers and another perfect seven-for-seven at the foul line. Moravian, which committed just seven turnovers in the second half, finished the contest with a 37-35 edge in rebounds.

The Flying Dutchmen's shooting woes continued after the intermission with Lebanon Valley making ten of 26 field goal attempts (38.5 percent) with four three-pointers and just eight of 16 free throws.

Moravian had four players in double figures with all 15 players in uniform seeing at least three minutes of action. Sophomore guard Ryan Miller tied his career high with a team high 18 points while sophomore forward Mark Franzyshen tossed in 14 points and grabbed a team high six rebounds off the bench. Sophomore forward Chris Earley also hit double figures off the bench with 11 points to go with four rebounds while senior forward Zach Zsilavecz tossed in ten points to go along with four rebounds and a pair of steals for the Greyhounds.

Sophomore guard Justin Chestnut contributed seven points and a pair of assists while junior forward Matt Devlin had six points and six rebounds in the victory. Sophomore guard Greg Jones nailed a pair of three-pointers for a career high six points for Moravian while senior forward Tyler Tripucka grabbed three rebounds.

For Lebanon Valley, junior guard Jimmy Curran led the Flying Dutchmen with 20 points and four assists while junior forward Dave Kasyan had 12 points and eight boards. Freshman guard Kyle Enoch dished out six assists to go for four rebounds.
