Marymount 68, Salisbury 63

ARLINGTON, Va. — The Salisbury men’s basketball team (12-10, 6-5 CAC), coming off an exciting 83-80 double overtime victory Saturday, were set back Wednesday by Marymount University (10-11, 4-7 CAC), 68-63. In the loss, Ray Williams lead Salisbury and all scorers with 19 points on 5-of-13 shooting while adding eight rebounds.

In the first half, the game was tightly contested, as both teams traded the lead five times. Salisbury led by as much as seven, while Marymount held the lead by as much as four. At halftime, Salisbury held a slim, four-point, 33-29 lead. Salisbury took advantage six Marymount turnovers in the period for seven points.

In the second half, Marymount began to apply pressure to Salisbury’s defense. The Saints applied pressure inside, scoring 20 points in the paint and scored 17 points off of eleven Salisbury turnovers. Marymount would use this advantage to build the winning five-point edge.

Aside from Williams, Salisbury was led by Segun Odumeru, who scored 13 points on 6-of-12 shooting, while added two assists and a block. Kyle Harmon and Justin Rice scored eight points each to add to the offense. Ozi Menakaya and Rico Stewart led the Sea Gulls in rebounding with seven boards apiece.

Marymount used a balance attack against Salisbury, as they had four players reach double figures in scoring. Mike Gray led the team with 15 points on 7-of-13 shooting, while Charles Atakora and Kyle O’Connor had 11 points each and Brandon Parker added 10 points. Atakora also led the team in rebounds with nine, while Gray and Rodney Puente had seven each.

Marymount shot 43.3% (26-of-60) from the field to better Salisbury’s 36.4% (20-of-55) from the field. The Saints were also 8-of-11 from beyond the three-point arc, while Salisbury was 6-of-21 from three-point range. Marymount also held the slim rebounding edge, 38 to 34.
