DeSales 82, FDU-Florham 78

MADISON, NJ — The College at Florham Devils were beaten by the DeSales Bulldogs 82-78 in double overtime. FDU drops to 5-17 overall and 2-9 in the Freedom Conference. The Bulldogs improve to 15-7 overall and 6-5 in the Freedom.

The Devils led by two when junior center Brian Rimol (Randolph, NJ) scored the opening bucket of the second overtime. But DeSales went on a 6-0 run with a pair of layups by Phil Stricker and a layup and an assist by Eddie Ohlson to lead by four, 73-69, with 3:17 remaining.

The Devils were within a point, 79-78, with just 17 seconds remaining after a layup by Rimol. FDU then fouled Ohlson, who made both free throws to give the Bulldogs a 79-76 lead.

Freshman guard, Ryan McPherson (West Orange, NJ) made a layup with seven seconds left to cut the lead to a point again, but it turned out to be the Devils’ last basket of the night.

Ohlson made three out of four foul shots in the final six seconds to seal the game.

Rimol led the Devils with a career-high 22 points, making 11-of-15 shots from the floor. His 22 points led all scorers and his eight rebounds tied for the game-high. Junior forward Pierre Schmitt (Park Ridge, NJ) added a career-high 20 points.

The Devils shot a solid 52.4 percent from the floor, but struggled from the free-throw line, making just six of 15 free throws.

For DeSales, Stricker scored 18 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Sedale Walton added 17 points and Ohlson chipped in 16 markers to go with a game-high assists.

The Devils will travel to Wilkes for a 3:00 pm Freedom Conference game Saturday.
