Eigenberg’s three-pointer gave Babson (9-13, 3-6) its largest lead of the game 57-50. Coast Guard led just twice in the second half 41-40 and the final time, 44-42 following an Al Sowers three-pointer with 10:10 left in the game.
Coast Guard’s Jeff Prebeck hit a pair of free throws with 3:02 left and Babson led 52-50 before Brian Parsons hoop with 1:51 left extended the Beavers lead to 54-50.
The Bears (14-6, 5-4) had the momentum early with leads of 6-0 and 13-5 with 11:43 left. Coast Guard led 21-14 with 4:08 left in the half before Babson used a 15-5 run to take a 29-26 halftime lead.
Eigenberg, Greg Bush and Chris Bradley led Babson with 13 points each while Christopher Bilodeau led the Beavers with seven rebounds. Babson shot 50 percent 13 of 26 from the floor in the second half and 45.5 percent for the game (25-55) while connecting on five of 10 from three-point range. Eigenberg was four of six from three-point range.
Prebeck led Coast Guard with 15 points to go with 10 rebounds while Sowers added 13 points and a team-high six assists. Craig Johnson had his fourth straight double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Coast Guard which leads all of men’s college basketball (Divisions I, II and III) in rebounding margin (+13.4) outrebounded Babson 38-31.
The Bears shot just 35.8 percent (19-53) and made just five of 18 from three-point range.
Sowers moved into sixth place on Coast Guard’s all-time three-point list as he hit three in the game for a career total of 105 passing Pat Shaw (‘94) who had 104 career treys.
