Roger Williams 67, Wentworth 62

BRISTOL, R.I. — Freshman guard Billy Barrett (Fairfield, Conn.) scored 14 points and dished out three assists as Roger Williams snuck past Wentworth on Tuesday night 67-62. Barrett hit his free throws down the stretch (5-5 FTs), including a three-point play with 3:42 to make the score 59-58, after the Hawks were down by as many as five points with 5:49 left to play.

In a game that featured nine lead changes and 16 ties, the Hawks took the final lead and never relinquished it. The first half was a back and forth battle with eventually the Royal Blue and Gold taking a three point halftime lead, 35-32. Roger Williams could never distance itself from the Leopards as Wentworth was always within striking distance. The Leopards eventually took the lead with 10:23 left to play at 50-47. Roger Williams never quit and got some huge baskets down the stretch from Barrett as well as junior forward Brandon Parrish (Lincoln, R.I.) and sophomore center Geoff Baranger (Fairfield, Conn.). The Hawks took the lead on the Barrett three point play and didn’t look back.

Baranger finished the game with 14 points and eight rebounds and Parrish finished with 12 points and seven rebounds. The Hawks finished the game shooting exactly 50% from the field and 79% from the foul line.

Wentworth had four players in double figures led by a game-high 16 points from Frankie Hall (Boston, Mass.), who also grabbed eight rebounds. Jason DaCosta (Cambridge, Mass.) scored 13 points, Sherrad Prezzie-Blue (Norwalk, Conn.) contributed 12 points and five assists and Weonard Bynes (Bridgeport, Conn.) had 10 points and seven rebounds.

With the win the Hawks improve to 10-11 overall and 9-3 in CCC play. Wentworth falls to 9-12 overall and 5-8 in conference play.

The Royal Blue and Gold return to action on Saturday, February 11, at 3:00 p.m. when they will play host to New England College. Meanwhile, Wentworth also returns home on Saturday when they will play Colby-Sawyer at 3:00.
