Trailing 19-2 to start the game, the Hawks rallied to tie the score at 26-26 on a jumper by Ron Dussett with 58 seconds remaining in the half. Playing their third straight game on the road, the Behrend Lions (16-6, 10-5) took a 30-27 lead into the locker room and led by as many as six in the second stanza. The Hawks would take their first lead of the game, 46-45 on a three pointer by Jerome Holloway with 6:00 remaining.
Despite shooting just 34% from the field in the second half, Penn State Behrend led the rest of the way until Reinard’s two clutch foul shots. The Hawks Corey Vander Sluis earned his second, straight double-double by finishing with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Reserve guard Glen Ufland also added 12 markers and Michael Reyes dished out nine assists while playing all 40 minutes.
Hilbert College will continue AMCC play with a weekend home stand starting Friday night at 8:00 PM against the University of Pitt-Greensburg. Saturday afternoon the Hawks will face Frostburg State at 4:00 PM.
