Dutch center Clint Driftmier had 23 points on 10-of-12 shooting, but the rest of the squad connected on just 13-of-42 in dropping to 9-12 overall and 4-10 in league play. Forward Taylor Phipps had 12 points and five boards while guard Zak Clark hit 5-of-10 for 12 points. Guard Chris Nelson had seven assists.
Luther (11-10 overall, 5-7 conference) took an early lead it didn’t relinquish, going up 30-25 at the break and remaining in command in the second half. Drew Devine came off the bench to score 15 points for the Norse. Forward Jake Lappe had 13 points and eclipsed the 1,000-point mark for his career, closing the night with 1,012. Luther shot 50.8 percent from the field and outrebounded Central 38-28.
Central travels to the University of Dubuque for a women’s-men’s doubleheader Friday starting at 6 p.m. Central defeated the Spartans 85-71 at Pella Jan. 4. The Dutch then take on Coe College Saturday, tipping off at 6 p.m. at Kuyper Gym.
