In New Haven on Tuesday night Emerson used a 26-9 run to open the second half to overcome their halftime deficit and beat Albertus 83-71. The Falcons opened the game very tight shooting 4-16 in the first 10 minutes going down 22-10 halfway through the half. The Falcons then went on a little run themselves to end the half outscoring the Lions 28-11, including 4-6 from behind the arc in that span, the last 8 minutes to take a 38-33 halftime lead with Victory Purnell (Sr., Los Angeles, CA) scoring 12 points and Adam Hovan (Fr., Ansonia, CT) scoring 10 points. In what seemed to be a reoccurring theme for the Falcons this year, they again went into halftime of a home game with the lead to only let it slip away early in the second half. The Falcons again came out in the second half very flat settling for poor shots going 4-17 while committing 8 turnovers in the first ten minutes to let Emerson take control of the game and go up 61-47 and essentially take the Falcons out of the game. The Falcons would not get closer than within 10 points as the Lions lead would grow to 19 points with 1:30 left before the final score settled at 83-71. The Falcons shot just 12-40 in the second half as the Lions shot a very hot 60 percent in the second half. Leading the way for the Lions was Steve Georgoulis with 22 points and 12 rebounds on 7-11 shooting and 8-8 from the charity stripe. Also for the Lions was Alfredo Tovar who had 21 points with 16 of those coming in the second half on 4-5 shooting from behind the arc. Leading the cause for the Falcons was Victor Purnell with 17 points on 7-20 shooting with only 5 of those points coming in the second half. Shawn Mendenhall (Fr., Bridgeport, CT) continued his hot and cold shooting going 3-14 from the field while Bill Rose (Jr., Guilford, CT) shot an abysmal 2-11 but did pull down 11 rebounds. Bobby Leonzo (Fr., East Haven, CT) was ultimately kept in check getting off only 8 shots to end up with 14 points and 10 rebounds. The game also saw the return of Sophomore guard Tom Eckert, who had been out with a knee injury, played sparingly and had little impact. The win pushed the Lion's record to 11-10 and 9-4 in the GNAC. The loss dropped the Falcons to 2-18, and 2-13 in the GNAC. The Falcons get a break from the conference when they travel to Eastern Connecticut State University Thursday night for a 7:00 tip-off.
