Maryville (Mo.) 85, Greenville 74

ST. LOUIS, Mo. — The Maryville University men’s basketball team defeated Greenville College 85-74 in tonight’s contest inside the Moloney Arena. With the win, the Saints improve to 7-2 in the SLIAC and 12-7 overall.

Early in the first half, Maryville lost the presence of powerhouse Stephen Bash when he left the game due to injury. The Saints received a much needed boost inside the paint from post player Matt Baker. Baker finished the day with a personal season-best 14 points and went 5-for-8 from the field. He also added four rebounds and a pair of assists during the contest.

Ben Hebl led the Saints’ offensive effort with a game-high 21 points. The senior guard was .500 (8-of-16) from the floor and drained four baskets from behind the three-point arc. Hebl also had four boards, four assists and three steals.

Maryville had help on the boards from Aaron Steinke and Matt Regan. The two each grabbed a game-high nine rebounds. Steinke also added seven points while Regan went on to record nine points, five assists, and two steals. After tonight’s match, Regan only needs 11 more points to reach 1,000 points in his career at Maryville.

The Panthers were led by Ben Hensold who had 14 points and six rebounds. Teammates Christopher Simmons and Matt Greene both added 11 and 10 points respectively.

Next Wednesday, Maryville returns to action to take on Fontbonne University here at the Moloney Arena. The game is scheduled for an 8 pm start.
