A record home crowd of 3,593 saw the nationally ranked Flying Dutchmen win their 20th game of the season and improve to 9-1 in the MIAA. It marks the 14th season in the 29-year coaching career of Glenn Van Wieren that the Flying Dutchmen have won 20-or-more games.
Earlier this season Albion defeated Hope by 18 points in a game totally dominated by the Britons. This game was one of several momentum shifts. Albion jumped out to an 8-0 lead, but Hope rallied to gain a 13-12 advantage on Jeff Carlson's three-point basket. Hope built the lead to as many as nine points, but Albion trimmed it back to four in the closing seconds. Marcus Vanderheide's three-pointer at the buzzer put Hope ahead 32-25 at intermission.
Five minutes in the second half Albion was back within a point, 39-38. Leading 48-42, the Dutchmen went on a 16-0 run highlighted by a pair of Carlson three-pointers.
Senior center Eric Voisin had a double-double for Hope with 11 points and 10 rebounds. He also had three steals and two blocked shots. Stephen Cramer scored 12 points while Carlson finished with 11.
