In the first half, the score remained close as the teams traded the lead six times. Neither team held more than a five-point lead. Goucher would take a lead into the halftime break, 30-28. In the first overtime period, the Goucher tied the score four times and force a second overtime with the score tied at 72. Odumeru dominated the second overtime, scoring nine points, including a free throw shot with 15 seconds remaining to clinch the three-point victory for Salisbury.
Other top scorers for Salisbury included Williams, who scored 21 points on 8-of-18 shooting; and Kyle Harmon (Salisbury, MD/Parkside), who scored 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting. Ozi Menakaya (Glen Burnie, MD/Capital Christian) led the Sea Gulls in rebounding with 10 boards. Darren Johnson (Montgomery Village, MD/Gaithersburg) added nine, while Williams added seven.
The Goucher attack was led by senior Jonathan Garritt (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) and junior James Russo (Cockeysville, MD/Dulaney). Garritt scored 27 points on 7-of-25 shooting and eight rebounds. Russo also scored 27 points on 9-of-22 shooting, including 6-of-11 from beyond the three-point arc.
Salisbury shot 45.8% (33-of-72) from the field, bettering Goucher’s 37.9% (25-of-66) shooting. Salisbury also dominated inside, leading the rebounds, 52 to 33.
