Bridgewater State 63, Framingham State 55

FRAMINGHAM, Ma — In MASCAC men’s basketball action this afternoon the Framingham State College Rams were defeated 63-55 at home by the Bears of Bridgewater State. With the loss, the Rams fall to 9-10 overall and 3-5 in the MASCAC and slip another game behind the Bears in the race for the final play off spots. The Bears are now 11-8 overall and 5-3 in the MASCAC.

After falling behind early 8-7, the Bears went on a 15-4 run to take a ten point lead over the Rams at 22-12 with nine minutes remaining in the first half. The Rams were able to pull within six points with just under three minutes remaining but the Bears were able to push the lead back to nine points at the half. The Bears were able to maintain their lead in the second half and held off a late surge by the Rams to pick up the win.

Junior center Derek Thompson (Hyannis, MA) controlled the paint all day and led the Bears with 14 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocks, while senior Cliff Furtado (Dartmouth, MA) chipped in 12 points and 6 steals.

Framingham State was led by junior Derek Wigman who scored a game high 15 points, while senior Tony Washington added 14 points and 6 boards.

The Rams return to action on Tuesday as they travel to Worcester State for a 8:00 game, while the Bears host MCLA on Tuesday at 7:30.
