It marked Carleton's sixth straight win at Memorial Auditorium and its eighth in its last nine games overall.
The Knights (13-8, 11-5) shot 49 percent from the floor and forced 20 Cobber turnovers. The Cobbers held a 36-20 rebounding edge, including 13 first-half offensive rebounds that resulted in 12 second-chance points. Carleton limited the hosts to one offensive rebound in the final 20 minutes, though, leading to only two second-chance points.
Melanie Hageman led all scorers with 22 points and grabbed 14 rebounds for the Cobbers (15-5, 12-3 MIAC). Jenna Freudenberg added 10 points for Concordia, which remains a half-game ahead of second-place St. Benedict, which beat St. Thomas this afternoon. Carleton still trails Gustavus by one game for third place in the MIAC standings, but the Knight now hold a 3.5 game lead over Bethel and 4.5 game lead over St. Thomas, as the Royals lost to St. Olaf this afternoon.
Carleton, which led 27-26 at the half, opened the second half with baskets by Hannah Oken-Berg and Vig, but the Cobbers used a quick 7-2 spurt, capped by a Hageman basket, to lead 34-33. It would be the last lead the Cobbers would enjoy, though, as Carleton outscored the Cobbers 11-2, with Christianson scoring six points and capping the spree with a triple.
The Cobbers tried to rally, pulling with four on a Sarah Krabbenhoft three-ball, but Carleton bumped the lead to 10, its largest of the day, on an Annie Isler three-point play. The Cobbers responded bu trimming the lead to five, but Carleton held the hosts to only two field goals in the final six minutes.
The first half started slowly for the Knights, who trailed early 11-4, but finished strong as they finished on a 7-2 spurt, capped by an Oken-Berg jumper, to lead 27-26. The first-half finish was again keyed by defense, as the Knights allowed but one field goal over the half's final five minutes.
