Brockport State 86, Plattsburgh State 84

BROCKPORT, N.Y. -- — Kris Gibbs-Smith led a balanced Plattsburgh State offense with a team-high 21 points, but that wasn't enough as the Cardinals' season-high four-game winning streak was stopped by host Brockport State on Saturday, 86-84, at Tuttle North Gymnasium. The Eagles improve to 13-8 overall and 9-3 in the State University of New York Athletic Conference men's basketball standings, while the Cardinals drop to 12-8 and 6-6.

All five Brockport starters scored in double figures including Ben Bellucci with a game-high 26 points, followed by Jerry Cheves, 15; Jon Rother, 12; and Kenny Amparo and Dan Rubertone, 11 each. Bellucci also dished eight assists and pulled down six rebounds.

Gibbs-Smith, who was 6-of-11 from the field and 8-of-10 on free throws and had eight rebounds, was one of several Plattsburgh players who turned in great performances. Jerrad Dumont had 18 points on six treys and recorded three steals. Antwane Miller scored 15 points, including 5-for-5 from the free throw stripe. Mike Dietz notched 11 points and grabbed nine rebounds for game honors in that category. Anthony Williams rounded out the Cardinal double-figure scorers with 10 points and had four assists.

After Bellucci made 1-of-2 free throws to give Brockport an 86-84 lead with 7 seconds remaining, Plattsburgh had a chance to send the game into overtime but Williams' jumper missed the mark with 1 second left.
