Franklin 73, Anderson 63

ANDERSON, Ind. - — The Anderson University men’s basketball team lost its fifth consecutive Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference game, falling to Franklin College 73-63 on Saturday at O.C. Lewis Gymnasium.

Terry Coleman led the Ravens with a career-high 18 points and 13 rebounds, recording his third career double-double and his second straight. Coleman hit 6-of-14 shots from the field and 6-of-7 free throws. He also had eight offensive rebounds in the game.

Lloyd DeLoatch also reached double figures for Anderson, recording 11 points, six assists, five steals and three rebounds. DeLoatch leads the HCAC in steals and ranks among the NCAA Div. III leaders with 55. He needs only 13 steals to break the AU school record, set by current coach Tom Slyder in 1987.

Leading scorer J.D. Clampitt finished with seven points and nine rebounds while second leading scorer and top rebounder Nick Rogers missed his fourth straight game with an illness.

AU shot 40 percent in the game compared to 45 percent for Franklin. The Grizzlies held a slight edge on the boards (38-37), steals (11-9) and in turnovers (15-18). However, Franklin had a 20-attempt advantage at the free throw line (31-11) and converted 11 more than the Ravens (20-9).

There were 20 lead changes and seven ties in the game with the last coming at 54-54 with just under five minutes. Franklin scored the next four points and went on an 18-6 run over the next four minutes to put the game away.

AU (7-14, 2-8 HCAC) hosts Defiance on Wednesday at O.C. Lewis Gym. The game will be carried live on WQME 98.7 FM and the internet at 7:30 p.m.
