Kornaker, now in his fifth season at the College, has been named as the Empire 8 Coach of the Year each of the last three seasons and was named as the DIII News National Coach of the Year for the 2004-2005 season after leading the Cardinals to a 28-1 start.
“I’m just glad that I’ve been able to continue St. John Fisher College’s winning tradition at men’s basketball,” says Kornaker, who has a 100-29 overall mark.
With the win, Fisher, currently ranked No. 21 nationally, improves to 16-3 overall and is in first place in the Empire 8 with a 7-1 record.
Fisher opened the game up with a 14-0 run over the opening 6:47 to take command. Hartwick trimmed a 36-24 halftime-lead to nine on a 3-pointer from Tim Kindlon on the Hawks’ first possession, but Fisher went on an 11-2 run over the next five minutes to pull away.
Fisher’s Mike McGee led the Cardinals with 16 points and knocked down four 3-pointers. The senior shooting guard now has 201 for his career and is only the second player in Fisher history to make over 200.
Dan McSweeney shot 4-for-4 from the floor and finished with 11 points and eight rebounds, while Sean O’Brien added 10 points, six assists and five boards.
Albe Hulick led Hartwick (8-11, 2-6) with 17 points and eight rebounds.
Fisher will return to action at 4 p.m. Saturda and will host Utica College.
