DePauw 87, Hendrix 79

GREENCASTLE, Ind. — Five DePauw players scored in double figures led by Stephen Schott with 17 as DePauw defeated Hendrix 87-79 in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference game.

DePauw improved to 9-11 overall and 5-5 in the SCAC, while the Warriors dropped to 10-10 overall and 3-7 in the conference.

Hendrix led 27-26 with just over eight minutes left in the first half, but the Tigers reeled off 14 straight points in a 2:26 stretch capped by Austin Brown's dunk to take their biggest lead of the game at 40-27 with 5:35 remaining. The Warriors closed the halftime gap to 42-36.

The Tigers extended the lead to 11 early in the second half, but Hendrix battled back to within four on a couple of occasions. DePauw again stretched the margin to double digits before the Warriors got as close as five at 82-77 with 41 seconds remaining. The Tigers hit 5-of-6 charity tosses down the stretch to hold on for the victory.

In addition to Schott's 17, Brown added 15 and a game-high seven rebounds and Alex Stewart totaled 12. Mike Moore and Reid Sakel each scored 11 in the win. Moore dished out a game-high nine assists and broke Mike Howland's DePauw freshman record for assists in a season. Moore has totaled 95 this year, while Howland finished with 91 during the 1998-99 season.

Justin Wagner paced Hendrix with 21 followed by Andrew King with 13 and Ryan Wible and Michael Bennett with 12 each. King led the Warriors with six rebounds.

DePauw hit 52.7 percent from the floor and hit 8-of-17 three-point attempts, while the Warriors shot 41.8 percent and only 37.1 percent in the second half. Hendrix outrbounded DePauw 35-31 and made all 13 free throws it attempted.

The Tigers host Rhodes on Sunday at 1 p.m., while Hendrix travels to Rose-Hulman on Sunday for a 1 p.m. contest.
