Curry 85, Wentworth 74

BOSTON, Mass. — Junior guard James Bartelle (Dorchester, Mass.) scored 24 points on 8-for-13 shooting, while senior forward Raheim Lamb (Roxbury, Mass.) added 21 of his own on 9-for-12 shooting as Curry evened its record to 9-9 (6-3 Commonwealth Coast Conference) with an 85-74 win over Wentworth Institute of Technology (9-10, 5-6)

For the first 15:10 of the first half, the game was close, with the score being tied twice and the lead changing five times. A Lamb layup with 3:51 left gave the Colonels a 23-19, followed by a three-pointer from Bartelle, which gave Curry its largest lead of 26-19 with 3:06 left. Wentworth would trim the lead to four twice before Curry took a 31-25 halftime lead.

The Ciolonels opened the second stanza with another three-pointer from Bartelle and a basket from Lamb to increase its lead to 11. However, a 7-0 Leopard run, capped by a layup from junior forward Bryan Gaine (Braintree, Mass.) brought the lead down to four (36-32) with 16:53 remaining. Again the two teams would trade baskets and eventually Curry would up its lead back to seven with just under 15:00 to play.

The Colonels would eventually lead by as much as 13 (56-43) with 9:11 left before the Leopards brought it down to single-digits (72-63) on a jump shot from Gaine with 2:15 left. A 5-0 spurt – all scored by senor guard Michael Mohrin (Greenwich, Conn.) – over the next 33 seconds brought the lead to 14. Wentworth would cut the lead back down as few as seven with 44 seconds left, but Curry went 6-for-6 from the line in the final 28 seconds of play and allowed Wentworth just two more points.

For the game the Colonels shot 52.4 percent from the floor, including 61.3 in the second half and scored nearly half of its points (40) from the paint.
