The win upped Cal Lutheran’s record to 13-5 overall and 6-1 in the SCIAC while the Athenas fell to 13-5, 4-3.
Stroot’s 32 points came on 14-for-21 shooting from the field and was three points shy of her career high of 35 set on Dec. 29, 2005 against Puget Sound. To go along with the game-high in points, Stroot added eight rebounds, four assists and five steals. Cal Lutheran had four players with double-figures in points. Alex Mallen tallied 17 points to go along with eight rebounds and six assists. Allison Neill and Tiffiny Shim had 11 and 10 respectively.
Claremont matched the Regals with four players in double-figure points. Betsy Butterick and Naomi Bagdonas led the Athenas with 13 points apiece. Kimberly Kawasaki chipped in with 12 points in 32 minutes and Cory Edgmon had 10 points to go along with five assists. Butterick added eight rebounds and seven assists to go with her 13 points.
Prior to the game’s tip off the school took time to honor Stroot for her recent achievements in surpassing CLU Athletics Hall of Fame member Kim Peppi-Kuenn in career points and free throws made. Just under three minutes into the game, with Peppi-Kuenn in attendance, Stroot received an assist from fellow senior Mallen and passed the hall of fame member for career field goals made with her 617th.
Cal Lutheran will put their three-game win streak on the line Saturday when they host conference opponent Caltech at 5:00 p.m. The game will be followed by the men’s basketball team hosting Caltech at 7:30 p.m. Both games will be broadcast live online at www.ibsu.net.
