The Gators shot well, 48.4% (15-31) and 3-6 from long distance, but still found themselves down by 20 heading into the locker room, as the Scots had the hotter hand hitting their first five three-point baskets, en route to 9-14 from beyond the arc for the half and a 20 point lead at the break.
The hot hand got the Scots off to a 23-6 lead, before cruising to the 20-point halftime lead. Wooster could barely miss in the first half, hitting 55.3% (21-38) from the field, and the aforementioned blistering 64.3% from long range.
Wooster wasted no time in the second half, starting the half with a 13-4 run, before cruising to the 33 point victory. The Gators shot 59.4% (19-32) in the second half and 54% for the game, while scoring 53 points in the second stanza. Wooster continued its strong shooting from the first half, hitting 57.9% (22-38) of their shots in the second half and 56.6% (43-76) for the game.
Savage scored 12 of his 16 points in the second-half, as 14 of McCloskey’s 16 came in the first period. Bill Babe (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) added 13 and Ben Torsney (Morgantown, W. Va./Morgantown) was the fourth double-digit scorer with 10. Ryan Hollihan (Saxonburg/Knoch) pulled down a team-best eight boards, while scoring seven points.
Allegheny returns home Saturday, February 4, in the second game of a women’s/men’s double-header, as they host the Battling Bishops of Ohio Wesleyan. Tip-off is scheduled for a 4:00 p.m. start.
