The victory clinches the # 1 seed for the men's basketball team at the 2006 CUNYAC Tournament hosted by the College of Staten Island.
The Beavers of CCNY led 60-59 with 1:16 left on a pair of free throws by Ken Richards (Jamaica, N.Y./Jamaica), but the Bearcats closed the game with the final four points to improve to 17-1 against regional teams.
Louie Karis (Brooklyn, N.Y./Xaverian) sank two free throws to put the Bearcats up for good, 61-60, with 16.2 seconds left.
CCNY turned the ball over on their next possession, and Chris Wiliams (Atlanta, Ga./South Gwinnett), off a Carl Emengo (Brooklyn, N.Y./Canarsie) assist, scored on a lay up with 5.4 seconds to provide a valuable three-point cushion.
CCNY (10-10, 6-4 CUNYAC) went down the court looking to tie the game on a 3-pointer by James Boddie (Jane Adams/Bronx, N.Y.), but his shot missed the mark.
Karis finished the game with 28 points, shooting 8-of-10 from the field and a perfect 3-for-3 from behind the three-point arc.
George Kunkel (Glendale, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) scored 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds, while Cheick Fadika (Abidjan, Ivory Coast/Petit) had 10 points and five blocks.
Boddie led the Beavers with 19 points.
