UW-Stevens Point vs. UW-Whitewater Dec 06
UW- Whitewater defeated UW-La Crosse, 63-57, Wednesday, November 30, at Mitchell Hall in La Crosse, Wisconsin in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener for both teams.
Whitewater led 29-23 at the half. The Eagles outscored UW-W 11-4 to start the second half, taking a 34-33 lead at 12:31 on a pair of free throws by Joe Werner (F, jr, Chippewa Falls/McDonnell). Whitewater came back with a run of its own, 10-0, to make the score 43-34 UW-W. Whitewater led the rest of the way, with La Crosse narrowing the margin to four points twice, the latest at 61-57 with 0:21 left. UW-W's Mike Toellner (F, jr, Mayville) made a pair of free throws with 0:19 left for the final margin.
Whitewater was led by Jeremy Manchester (G, sr, Racine/St. Catherine's) with 21 points. Also in double figures were Anthony Mlachnik (G, jr, Muskego) with 15, and Rob Perry (F, so, Milwaukee/Dominican) with 12. Manchester also led the Warhawks with eight rebounds. La Crosse had four players in double figures, led by Werner with 16 and a game-high 12 rebounds. Chris Ask (G, jr, St. Charles, MN) added 11, and Timothy Owen (F, sr, Middleton) and Marcus Conigliaro (G, sr, Milwaukee/Vincent) with 10 apiece.
UW-W has defeated La Crosse eleven consecutive games. The Warhawks are now 3-2 overall, 1-0 in the WIAC. UW-L is 5-1 and 0-1.
The Warhawks are ranked 13th in the NCAA Division III preseason poll conducted by D3hoops.com. The Warhawks next game is Wednesday, December 7th at 7:00 with UW-Stevens Point visiting the Kachel Gym in Williams Center.
