St. Thomas 80, Carleton 67

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Junior center Isaac Rosefelt had 24 points and 12 rebounds to lead host St. Thomas (2-1 overall, 1-0 MIAC) to an 80-67 MIAC men's basketball win over Carleton (2-2, 0-1) Wednesday night at UST's Schoenecker Arena.

Carleton fell behind by 42-25 in the first half and trailed 46-36 at halftime. The Knights stayed in the game but never got closer than eight points in the second half.

UST shot 68% from the field in the first half and 57% on the game (31-of-54) and outrebounded Carleton 36-24.

Rosefelt's 15 second-half points included five dunks. He had his third consecutive double-double in conference play dating back to last season.

Junior forward Mike Keating, a transfer playing his first conference game, scored 14 of his 21 points in the first half, and added eight rebounds on the game

Senior guard Sean Sweeney added 11 points and six assists, including 3-for-3 from 3-point range. Junior guard Bryan Schnettler added 12 points and eight rebounds and senior guard Alex Weaver chipped in eight points in 15 minutes off the bench.

Sophomore forward Tommy Drake had 22 points, senior forward Dan Forkrud added 17 points and junior guard Jake Phillips scored 16 points for the Knights. Carleton had only seven turnovers but made just 2-for-11 from 3-point range in the second half.

The Toms, starting their 25th season in Schoenecker Arena, avenged their only 2004-05 home defeat. An overtime loss to Carleton in the regular season was the lone home court loss in 11 games.

St. Thomas plays all six of its December games away from home. The Toms play Saturday at Macalester (3 p.m.), Monday at Hamline (8 p.m.) and next Wednesday at defending MIAC champion Gustavus (8 p.m.).
