New York City Tech 73, John Jay 62

BROOKLYN, NY — CITY TECH BEAT JOHN JAY 73-62 IN CUNYAC
MEN’S BASKETBALL ON BANNER NIGHT!
In front of a packed house, the New York City College of Technology men's basketball team celebrated two special moments this evening at the Klitgord Center, first the team’s 2004-05 CUNYAC Championship & NCAA Second Round appearance with the ceremonial banner being unveiled. The team ended the evening with a 73-62 victory over John Jay College in the CUNYAC opener for both schools. It was the first Conference victory for new head coach Otis Fenn, whose team has now gone 21-2 in CUNYAC games since February of the 2003-04 season.

The Yellow Jackets 2-3 (1-0 CUNYAC) took a 27-24 lead into the half, but the Bloodhounds (0-6, 0-1) made their strongest surge with a mini 6-0 run, two minutes into the second stanza, earning their only lead of the game 30-29. City Tech countered with a 12-1 run, capped by a three-pointer from senior guard Clyde Forteau (St. Raymond’s / Bronx, NY), over the next five minutes to take the lead for good. Forteau and fellow team captain, junior forward Otis Saylee (Seward Park / New York, NY) had big second halves, with 15 and 14 points respectively. Saylee, a preseason conference all-star, was 7-13 from the field and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds in his first superior game of the season. Forteau added five assists and shot 5-11 from long distance.

John Jay junior forward Victor Raspaldo (JFK / Bronx, NY) was nearly unstoppable in the second half as well, scoring 26 of his game high 29 points in the period on six treys (7-11 total) and one layup and a 6-7 performance from the charity stripe. Freshman guard Alex Valerio (Francis Lewis / Flushing, NY) had 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds for the Bloodhounds.

City Tech next heads to St. Joseph’s College (LI) on Saturday night, December 3rd for a non-conference game at 6:30 pm.
