The Devils started out hot, drilling four of their first six three-pointers and taking a 26-14 lead with 9:10 left in the first half. In the second half, the Aggies got the first bucket to cut the Devils lead down to four points, but FDU responded with a 12-2 spurt to take a 14-point advantage, 55-41, with 14:54 left to play.
Del Val came back from that with a 17-4 run of their own over the next eight minutes to trail the Devils by just a point 59-58.
That was as close as the Aggies could manage, as the Devils got back up to a five point lead just a minute later after a pair of free throws by freshman forward Andrew Biancosino (Edison, NJ) and a lay-up by junior center Brian Rimol (Randolph, NJ).
With 2:44 left in the game, junior guard Brian Dillon (West Orange, NJ) was fouled, resulting in a two free throws. That call also fostered a technical foul on the DVC bench.
Dillon, now shooting four free throws, made three to give the Devils a 66-59 lead. In their next three possessions, the Aggies missed a free throw, a jumper, and a three-pointer. A pair of free throws by junior guard Frank Emslie (Hazlet, NJ) gave the Devils a 68-59 advantage with 1:45 on the clock.
A lay-up by Emslie with 1:17 gave the Devils a 70-59 lead.
In the final 17 seconds, Emslie went 4-for-4 from the foul line to put the game out of reach.
On the night, Emslie led the Devils with 15 points. Biancosino chipped in four points, while leading the Devils in rebounds with nine and assists with four. Junior forward Pierre Schmitt (Park Ridge, NJ) scored 13 points. Junior guard Cody Chalmers (Middletown, NJ) also added 13 points. Rimol chipped in four points and eight boards.
