Case Western Reserve 101, Hiram 87

CLEVELAND, OH (November 30, 2005) — Case Western Reserve University senior guard Carson Oren (South Bend, IN) recorded his fourth consecutive double-double tonight with 18 points and 10 rebounds as the Spartans defeated visiting Hiram College 101-87 in the Veale Center. The Spartans scored 100 plus points for the second consecutive game as they defeated Westminster College 135-120 on Sunday.

Case improves to 4-1 on the season while Hiram falls to 0-2. Oren added five assists and sophomore center Mason Conrad (Tarpon Springs, FL) also recorded a double-double with a team-high 19 points and 10 rebounds.

The Spartans led by 10 in the first, 32-22 at the 9:01 mark, but the Terriers cut that down to four to only trail 49-45 at halftime. Case sophomore center Mason Conrad led the team, who shot 55.9 percent (19-34) in the first 20 minutes of play, with 15 points and four rebounds in the half. Hiram also shot above 50 percent (20-39, 51.3%) from field and had three players in double digits in the first 20 minutes.

Case once again built their lead back up to 10 in the second half, leading 72-62 at the 10:00 and increased it to 15 a little over two minutes later (7:17) 83-68. Spartan junior guard Matt Cannan (Dublin, OH) scored 10 of his 18 points on the night in the second half. The Spartans finished the game shooting 52.9% from the field and hit seven of their 10 three-point attempts to put away the Terriers, who shot just 38.7% from the floor in the final half. For the game, Case also held a 49-31 rebounding edge and forced 20 turnovers.

Hiram senior guard Rick Baldwin (Youngstown, OH) and senior center TJ Spencer (Yorkville, OH), who both had 11 in the first half, led four Terriers in double-digits with a game-high 29 for Baldwin and 21 Spencer.

The Spartans will play next on December 5 when they host Thiel College in the Veale Center at 7:30 p.m.
