Bethany 93, Ohio-Eastern 60

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. — One night after upsetting Division II Wheeling Jesuit University, the Bethany College men’s basketball team (4-3) took care of business against Ohio University-Eastern Wednesday night, racing to a 14-point halftime lead and cruising to a 93-60 triumph over the Panthers in the second night of the Wendy’s Classic at West Liberty State College.

Just as they did the night before in a 71-70 victory over Wheeling Jesuit, last year’s WVIAC Tournament champions, the Bison rained down threes on OUE early to take control. Treys by sophomore guard Brody Jackson, senior guard Josh Polantz and junior guard Marc Palermo propelled BC to a 15-4 advantage six minutes into the game. Bethany would go on to carry a 41-27 lead into the halftime locker room.

The Bison, who were led by Palermo’s 11 at the break, hit seven trifectas in the opening half and converted 15 Panther turnovers into 14 points.

Bethany wasted little time in the second half cementing their fourth win of the year, as an 18-4 run gave BC a 59-31 advantage and OUE never moved closer than 26 the rest of the way. Jackson highlighted the burst, as he notched 10 of his career-high 13 points during the run. Bethany’s lead would grow to 39 before settling down for the 33-point victory.

In claiming the win, the Bison dominated on the boards, holding a 55-36 advantage, including 19 offensive caroms. BC also banged home 12 three-pointers to match a season-high and gave out 26 assists on 37 baskets.

Senior forward Matt Drahos paced the Bethany attack with 21 points and 12 rebounds, his second double-double in the last three games. Joining Drahos and Jackson in double figures was Palermo and Polantz, who each scored 11, while senior Mike Drahos registered eight points and 12 boards.

Ohio-Eastern was led by Kyle Greenlee’s 14 points.

After playing four games in five days, the Bison are now off for a week. Bethany returns to the court Wednesday, Dec. 7, when they host Pitt-Greensburg at 7 p.m. in Hummel Field House.
