McCloskey led the Blue and Gold in scoring for the third game in a row, and also led the team in assists with five while picking up six rebounds. Matt Majzlik (Monaca/ Hopewell) came off of the bench to score 12 points and grab seven rebounds, while Ryan Hollihan (Saxonburg/Knoch) continued his great start to his collegiate career with eight points, six rebounds and two blocks.
Allegheny opened the game with a 5-0 run, but scoring for the rest of the period was back and forth as Allegheny took a 34-31 lead into the locker room. McCloskey was 5-of-8 from the field in the half to lead all scorers with 12 points.
A quick three pointer by the Saxons to start the second half tied the game at 34 and was a preview of what was to come over the next 20 minutes. Alfred, after going 1-of-8 from behind the arc in period one, went 8-of-11 in the second session. A string of five three pointers in four minutes in the middle of the half transformed a two point Gator lead into a nine point deficit. The Gators never got within seven the rest of the way, and have now lost three straight.
Leading Alfred on the night was Rob McCarter, who scored 21 points while collecting six rebounds. Ryan Hallett picked up 18 points in the win.
The Gators have two more home games before a five-game road stretch. On December 3 the Blue and Gold will host the Lords of Kenyon College at 3:00 p.m. before hosting the Westminster Titans on December 7 in a 7:30 p.m. contest. The game against Kenyon will kick off the conference season for Allegheny.
